Trevor Phillips to Speak Up, Speak Out at Holocaust Memorial Day event
Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, will be speaking at a free event at the British Library on 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in Camden.
The theme this year is ‘Speak up, speak out’, to challenge discrimination in our communities and neighbourhoods and help build a strong society without exclusion and persecution. The aim of the event – hosted in partnership by the British Library and Camden Council – is to raise awareness of issues facing faith communities, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and black and minority ethnic people and promote solidarity across communities.

Speakers at the event will include:
- Councillor Mike Katz, Camden Council
- Dr Toby Simpson of the Wiener Library
- Lou Hart, Director of Camden LGBT Forum.
The Mayor of Camden, Councillor Abdul Quadir, who will be opening the event, said: “This Holocaust Memorial Day we are reflecting on the importance of each of us taking responsibility for the persecution in our communities. I hope this event will help us challenge discriminatory behaviour in our communities and neighbourhoods and promote a more inclusive and just society.”
The event is from 6.30pm to 8pm on Friday 27 January in the Conference Centre, British Library, 96 Euston Road, NW1 2DB. It is free and there is no need to book.
